The dust has finally settled after, what turned out to be a record Southampton Boat Show for us. Generally the good old British weather behaved itself apart from the minor matter of a little storm blowing through and taking a liking to the front panel of our stand! Not too much damage suffered; a quick repair and tweak and we were all protected again!

We were a little nervous what the general feel at the show would be like, particularly with the news that was released a little beforehand that the London Boat Show for January 2019 had been cancelled. But it turned out we needn’t have been concerned as the ‘buzz’ from like-minded exhibitors was to make this opportunity work for our customers.

We were really pleased that serious boaters attended the show and are still committed to the event, and were willing to spend time talking to us on what we can offer you and how we can help you. Even after nearly 30 years it still really thrills us that customers love our business, our people, our product designs and quality, and our willingness to adapt and come up with a solution for you.

Our code for pre-ordered discounted tickets worked a treat this year. The boat show organisers informed us we were number 6 on the list and gave us a little bottle of bubbly to say thank you, what’s not to like! So, a big thank you to those that participated. We will be running the same scheme next year (providing the organisers are) as we have already booked our slot for 2019! We’ll see you there!

Early Autumn/Late Summer; our favourite time of year has arrived. Now that the children are back at school this time of year brings some mixed weather, bit of sun, bit of wind, bit of rain and some pleasant days out on the water. It’s also Southampton Boat Show time, and here at C&J we normally take a moment to reflect on the past 9 months and start looking towards the next 3 to 6 months.

We had some real extremes of weather this year; Beast from the East, mini Beast from the East, a few weeks of rain and then Bam!….straight into the best/worst heatwave we’ve had for at least 40 years! Wow, was it hot at times.

We really love exhibiting at the Southampton Boat Show and there’s no better feeling when customers go out of their way to tell us that “the Bimini we made for them was a godsend”, or “the Enclosure was the best item they have purchased for the boat”. It’s a real buzz to hear such great comments. This is why we do what we do.

Here at C&J we have always tried to live by the motto ‘One Season Ahead’. i.e. we are now looking at the Autumn and Winter months; and what if we experience another significant weather event? Could be another Beast, or month after month of Atlantic storms battering our coastlines. What will this mean to protecting your pride and joy.

We are already taking enquiries for full bespoke Winter Covers, which is great; but these behemoths can sometimes take a minimum of 8 weeks to manufacture, depending on our workload and working patterns. Cockpit Enclosures and Tonneau covers also spike in demand during the Autumn months. Designs already on file can be turned around quite quickly, but bespokes or custom makes can take longer.

With one eye on the Brexit situation in the New Year (wish we had a crystal ball); now is the best time to make those preparations. Contact us now if you are thinking about protection over the Autumn and Winter months. Don’t leave it too late and let the weather get the better of you, whatever it might be.

Am I pleased that I had a Sun Awning made last year!

My kitchen window is east facing and we have a little sun trap just outside the window that can get really hot during the day. The talented guys and girls in our workshop made the lovely awning for me from a Ferrari Soltis Mesh, to my measurements.

I installed a couple of eyebolts to the wall of the house and into the garage and conservatory and added a few shackles, a bottlescrew and some line on one corner to allow for some movement when the breeze gets up. It has been up since the middle of March and boy, has it protected the kitchen window from the heat and light! It has been an absolute god send in the current heatwave.

It’s also a great little spot to sit under in the morning for bit of al fresco breakfast.

Introducing the Bio Dock...

We were asked to be the sole producer and supplier of the eco-friendly, self-cleaning antifouling system, and it's not often that such a simple product can reduce costs and outperform the traditional methods of antifouling paint. This product will not only help in reducing pollution around the coast, but it also improves performance and reduces fuels costs for all boat owners, racing and cruising alike.

We are extremely excited to launch the Bio Dock in connection with Silicon Projects! To find out more information, or to make a purchase, please click the buttons which should provide all the information you need...

3D Modelling & Design

Here at C&J Marine, we've made some interesting advances using modern technology to produce your brand new C&J products

Princess v58 3d

These images show a brand new Aft Canopy fitted to a Princess V58 Motor Yacht purely using our unique 3D modelling process!

During this process, our traditional methods of taking physical templates from the boat, in order to start making the product weren’t necessary. Our design team took a series of photographs and using our software they created a 3D graphic of the boat and designed the aft canopy, allowing our customer to envisage the finished product. Once approved the design was cut, machined and finally installed by our team of professionals without any modification required. This is taking our industry by storm and with 6 years of intensive research and development, we are able to offer this service and produce fantastic results!

We’ve taken the outside in…

In a very similar process to 3D modelling the exteriors of Yachts or Power Boats, we have taken this method inside too!

Our friends at Kemp Sails recently placed an order for Upholstery and we knew this would be a perfect opportunity to show the full extent of the software, they were happy to accept!

By modelling the main saloon area and cabins of an MG C27 we were able to produce a 3D graphic of the interior. Then, using our software, the design team were able to completely model and produce the customer's interior upholstery requirements. This also gives us the opportunity to help our customers make one of the toughest decisions - colour and fabric choices!

We were able to show our customer what their new C&J Marine interior upholstery would look like before it was even produced. Needless to say, they were quite pleased with the result!

These new methods are tried and tested and are proving extremely popular. If you are interested in learning more about how our modelling method could fit with your canvas or upholstery requirements, please do not hesitate to give our experienced sales team a ring on 01243 785485. Alternatively, send your enquiry to us via email at sales@cjmarine.co.uk

National Autistic Society
Kairos II

In support of the fantastic charity "The National Autistic Society", one of our many valued customers; Simon and Helen Ward are about to commence a three-month sabbatical around Great Britain. Their goal is to raise awareness about Autism and raise funds to give back to the charity that is very close to their hearts.

Simon and Helen have spent many months preparing their Moody 336 for the journey and we were lucky enough to be asked to manufacture a full set of canvas covers, including a Sprayhood, Cockpit Enclosure, Dodgers, a Pack-a-Main and much more. We have no doubt that their travels will be made a lot more comfortable with their C&J additions!

They will be visiting Marinas around England, Scotland, Wales, Southern and Northen Ireland, so to keep up to date with their progress, and to track their location on this exciting adventure, you can visit their WordPress blog at crazysails.blog!

C&J are so proud to be involved in such a great charitable event that we will be donating £20.17 for every order placed for any new canvas product purchased for a Moody Sailing Yacht in support of Simon and Helen's travels.

Good Luck from all at C&J!
